When new company Field Cloud developed their new net-based technology for monitoring oil fields, they were presented with the opportunity to move their prototype equipment to the field trial stage with one of the most prestigious oil field operators in the business. Matthew Smith came over from France to a conference in London, and stopped in to see us on the way. He came with a bundle of circuit boards loaded with his precious application software and proprietary hardware solutions. We sat and designed the first prototype there and then, and machined, printed and despatched a fully finished prototype enclosure to his hotel in...

We needed PID temperature controller for a pair of heater elements for our sealing tank. I knocked up a sweet aluminium housing for the electronics out of a UnioBox 2. The benefits of the UnioBox extrusion are that there is a slot that will take an M3 bolt. This allowed me to bolt a pair of thyristors directly on to the surface. The extrusion acts as a heatsink as well as being the side of case. We have our own cnc punch, so it was not difficult to make the holes required in the front and back panels. ...

UnioBox has already proved very popular because its variable width and length along with a choice of 3 heights means that most electronic circuit board applications can be accommodated. Now Lincoln Binns have launched a new wall mounting lug for the range of electronic enclosures that makes them even more versatile. It is called UnioLug. It is made of thick black ABS plastic and is designed to be very rigid. It has a U-shaped slot to take an M4 or M5 mounting bolt or a No.10 self-tapping screw, and is fixed to the corner of any...
